eduroam (education roaming) allows users (researchers, teachers, students, staff) from participating institutions to securely access the Internet from any eduroam participating institution. The eduroam principle is based on the user's home institution authenticating the user, whereas the authorisation decision allowing access to network resources is by the visited network.
Specification
eduroam allows users of an eduroam participating Institution to conveniently obtain Internet access when visiting other participating Institutions with their home institution email address and password. With eduroam, if you are visiting an eduroam participating Institution, you do not need to apply for a separate account from the visited Institution for Internet access. This benefits visiting faculty, academics traveling for conferences and collaborative work, study abroad and exchange students, visitors attending events, etc.
Users (researchers, teachers, students, staff) from participating institutions.
SMU users visiting other institutions
SMU staff, faculty, and students can connect to participating institutions’ Wi-Fi using their SMU email address and password, after completing a one-time setup on their device.
Use your full SMU email address in the correct format, for example:
- Faculty/Staff:

xxxx@business.smu.edu.sg,xxxx@sis.smu.edu.sg, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
No additional permission is required from the visited Institution to access the eduroam network once you have configured your account correctly and it has authorised your access.
eduroam uses open standards to enable cross platform uniform access like Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, etc.
eduroam is based on the most secure encryption and authentication standards in existence. Its security exceeds that of typical commercial hotspots. Be aware though that when using the general Internet at an eduroam hotspot, the local site security measures at that hotspot will apply to you as well.
For example, the firewall settings at the visited Institution may be different from those you are used to at home, and as a guest you may have access to fewer services on the Internet than you have at your home institution.
SMU users are strongly encouraged to use WLAN-SMU while on campus, as it provides higher bandwidth and access to authorised local network resources. eduroam network only allows access to the Internet.
As long as you have a valid email address and password from your eduroam participating institution, you can connect to the eduroam wireless network.
